Biffle: Move to RCR 'News to Me'

Greg Biffle is going to remain at Roush Fenway Racing next year.

It's home, it's where he began his national series career and he's under contract this year and next. The fact that a new contract has not been crafted yet is beside the point.

So, when he read on Twitter that he would be a great fit to replace Kevin Harvick at Richard Childress Racing for the 2014 season, he got a little chuckle out of it.

“I’m hit or miss with Twitter, right,” Biffle said this weekend at Pocono. “I follow it quite a bit and then I don’t. So yesterday over the rain delay, I’m just bored out of my mind — everyone was. I’m flipping through, reading some of the Twitter stuff and it’s kind of funny, that’s the first I heard of it last night when I read it on my Twitter account.

“You know how fans are, they’re like, ‘Hey, he should go over there. He’d be a great fit.’ But anyway, no, that’s news to me. We haven’t even started contract talks. We’ve had preliminary kind of talks around (sponsor) 3M extending but then again, we have over a year — a year and a half — left.”

Doesn't sound like a guy eager to make a change, does it?

This story does beg the question of who will take over the No. 29 Chevrolet when Harvick leaves for Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the season.

Most consider that it will be Austin Dillon, grandson of Childress and genuine Nationwide Series hero. Some, like SPEED analyst Jimmy Spencer, say Dillon isn't ready for the bright lights of the Sprint Cup Series yet. 

There are a few guys who could be added to that list. Ryan Newman, on a one-year deal with SHR and absent sponsorship, could be a candidate, especially since Harvick is coming over for 2014. Depending on how the season goes, Jamie McMurray or Juan Pablo Montoya could be considered an option, though there is nothing being said about driver changes at EGRwFS.

This is a story for later in the year, but it's always fun to take a look now.
