BLOG: All in the Family Again at RPM
Dec 3 2013 - 10:37pmNever have the words "all in the family" been more of a mantra than at Richard Petty Motorsports. After all, patriarch Lee won three NASCAR titles, King Richard won seven, and Maurice Petty built engines for all of them. Cousin Dale Inman was the crew chief, too.
The next generation of Petty family racers is now in place, as Richard Petty Motorsports announced the hiring of one of the sports most talented crew chiefs in the NASCAR garage. Trent Owens has been assigned as the leader of Aric Almirola and the No. 43 Smithfield Ford team beginning immediately. Owens, a PEtty family relation, has made his name known in the NASCAR Nationwide Series over the past seven years as a crew chief at both Braun Racing and Turner Scott Motorsports. The 38-year-old is a five-time winner on the Nationwide circuit with five different drivers. This will be Owens first full-time opportunity to be a crew chief at the Sprint Cup level.
If this begins another run of titles for the 43, it will just be repeating history.
