BLOG: Apparently, Ku. Busch Isn't the Only Outlaw on His Team

Gene Haas strapped on his six-gun Monday and officially announced he was going to meet F-1 out in the street at high noon.

Haas says he plans to field an American-based Formula One racing series team within the next two years. The team will be called Haas Formula, he said, and he should know within the next four weeks if the team will begin racing in 2015 or wait until 2016. 

Part of that is how long it takes him to find an engine supplier--one who will travel to Kannapolis, N.C., at any rate--and part is who he gets to head up the project.

Haas Formula would become the first American-based Formula One team in more than three decades to join the world-wide racing series. 

Haas has the money, the desire and the devil-may-care attitude to make it work, too.

"I wouldn't be doing it if I thought I was going to fail. But that's the challenge -- proving other people wrong."
