BLOG: That New Penalty Thing is In Gear

NASCAR announced in the offseason that it was streamlining its penalty process for 2014, codifying violations and adding penalties based on degree of offense.

Remember high school, when you weren't in your seat when the bell rang?

That's what is happening this weekend at Texas. Some 12 teams will serve the NASCAR equivalent of detention today, losing practice time for being tardy.

NASCAR took 15 minutes of practice time away from the 12 teams for being late to the qualifying inspection line at Martinsville.

Those who will miss 15 minutes of the one-hour, 50-minute session include Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Kyle Larson, Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Landon Cassill, Cole Whitt, Michael Annett, Martin Truex Jr., Reed Sorenson and Parker Kligerman.

According to reports, the clock on these penalties begins when the cars are ready for practice. The penalty for each team doesn't begin until the car is ready for practice.
