George 'Jud' Pemberton, Father of Racers, Passes at 82

There are heavy hearts in NASCAR this weekend, especially in the NASCAR R&D Center.

George Jud Pemberton, father of Robin, Randy, Ryan and Roman Pemberton, died on Sunday at the age of 82.

According to the obituary, Pemberton lived in Mooresville, NC at the time of his passing.

Known as Jud by family and friends, George proudly served his country aboard the USS Coates, as a gunners mate, from 1951-55. A phenomenal basketball player, in high school, college and in the service, he was often referred to as Juddy Jump Shot a distinction earned, as one of the first players to ever shoot the basketball jump shot. Jud passed his love of sports and competition on to his sons, all of whom are involved in NASCAR. Robin is NASCAR's VP of Competition, Ryan is a crew chief, Randy a broadcaster and Roman a spotter. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 26 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville.
