Newman Looking for Love...at RCR?

What do you do if you're Ryan Newman?

You're a respected veteran driver at a team that won a series title in 2011, and you've been strong your whole career, winning races, poles and contending for titles?

Yet, at the end of the season, your contract expires and you will be looking for another home for the 2014 season?

“I just want to race some place where I’m wanted,” Newman told FOX Sports at Kentucky.“Where people are happy I’m there.”

Newman, who had a year added to his contract with Stewart-Haas Racing last year, is 18th in points, two slots behind Stewart, and until recently, he's been outrunning the boss. 

A lot of speculation has been centered on Newman crossing over to Richard Childress next season, to replace the guy who is coming to SHR--Kevin Harvick.

Childress has indicated that Newman might be the guy to fill the seat Harvick is vacating, as Newman and Kurt Busch are the likely candidates with experience and stature necessary to fill that ride.

“There are only so many guys that don’t have contracts for next year,” Newman said. “At this point, I would entertain any possible opportunity. I don’t think anyone in my position wouldn’t do anything otherwise."

Of course, there is the specter of Austin Dillon filling that ride, too, and he's got better connections at RCR given that he's RC's grandson.

“Of all the opportunities that there are out there, he’s got one of the best opportunities — as far as the 29 being vacated. But I don’t know what the family tree is going to look like over there.”
