ONMC POWER 10: 'Dega Duel Jumbles the Rankings

Just when the ONMC Power 10 was starting to get a little continuity going, Talladega appeared on the schedule.

You know what that means: scramble city.

Oh, there were some drivers moving up, but the carnage over the last 50 laps reduced some drivers to tears by casting them out of the Power 10. At least, that's how it seems!

How it works is simple: we tell you who the 10 best drivers are after each race this season, and you can agree, disagree or improve on them by commenting on the article itself. Sound good?

Here we go.

1. Jeff Gordon: Still hasn't won yet, got caught up in Bad Brad's Turn 4 whoopsie and finished 39th. That's Talladega for you. Last week: 1

2. Kyle Busch: Finished 12th at Talladega, which was good for the top dogs on Sunday. He's due, and Kansas is up next. He's pretty good on tracks like Kansas. Last week: 6

3. Kevin Harvick: He was seventh on Sunday, and that was purely based on how the final three laps shook out. He's capable of winning every time out, so he moves up. Last week: 10

4. Matt Kenseth: Still hasn't won yet, but he's been close. Second to Gordon in the points, he was caught up in the same scrum Gordon was. That's Talladega for you. Last week: 3

5. Joey Logano: Got caught by the Talladega terrors late in the race and finished 32nd. He's in the Chase already. No worries. Last week: 2

6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: For some reason, he lost the draft twice in the late going. Not a typical Junior deal at 'Dega, but he gets at least one mulligan. This is it. Last week: 4

7. Greg Biffle: The Biff hasn't been as strong as he might have wanted, but he was right there on Denny Hamlin's bumper at Talladega. That's worth a spot. Last week: not ranked.

8. Brian Vickers: The Sheriff has been coming on strong of late, and ran fourth at Talladega. You remember him winning at Talladega, don't you? The 48 and 88 do. Last week: Close but no Cigar

9. Denny Hamlin: A victory will get you on this list. Hamlin finally got one, and he did it out of nowhere. He's back, y'all. Last week: not ranked.

10. Jimmie Johnson: Still hasn't won, but hey, he ran well for a while and then got caught in one of the Turn 4 tempests. Still beat a healthy 88 to the line. That counts. Last week: 9.

Dropped out: Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, Ryan Newman

Close but no cigar: 

Keselowski got a lap down and tried to make it up. He ended up making a lot of fabricators hate him. Edwards had a tire go down in the pack, with predictable results, and Newman T-boned him in the melee. All are still strong contenders...just not at Talladega. Kanasas should be kinder to them.Landon Cassill gets a mention here, simply because with two laps to go, he had as good a shot as any to win the darn thing.
