ONMC POWER 10: Do You Really Have to Ask?

Uh, is there really any suspense to this week's ONMC Power 10?

That would be a big no.

When you are racing on a day named for you, at a place where you made history 20 years ago and helped transition between generations and you win? Dude...it's a given.

Jeff Gordon tops this week's edition of the ONMC Power 10.

How it works is simple: we tell you who the 10 best drivers are after each race this season, and you can agree, disagree or improve on them by commenting on the article itself. Remember, this is a family ranking, so keep that in mind.

Let's go to the rankings, shall we?

1. Jeff Gordon: See above. On Jeff Gordon Day, Gordon won his record fifth Brickyard 400, by actually getting a restart exactly right. Good enough for me! Last week: 2

2. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Finished ninth at Indy, which is a spot better than the 10th at NHMS, but is running a strong second in points and has two victories. Last week: 3

3. Kyle Busch: If his Snickers Toyota had had a little more oomph, he would have won...and ended Toyota's winless streak at Indy. Last week: 4

4. Joey Logano: As usual, JoLo was plenty fast, but he had a track position problem and wound up on the wrong side at the end. Last week: 5

5. Kevin Harvick: Happy finally put a run together that didn't evaporate on pit road or in the fence. It showed. Last week: not ranked

6. Brad Keselowski: Got in trouble with pit strategy and other stuff and spend most of the day a lap down. Rallied for 12th. Good move. Last week: 1

7. Ryan Newman: Mr. Consistency finished 11th, which is par for the course and is seventh in the points. In other words, if all goes well, he's in the Chase. Last week: 8.

8. Matt Kenseth: Ran fourth at Indy, part of a 2-3-4 Joe Gibbs Racing finish. With teammate Denny Hamlin's misfortune in the tech inspection process, could be higher. Last week: 6

9. Jimmie Johnson: Very un-Six-Time run at Indy, but still finished 14th. That's better than 11 laps run, DNF at New Hampshire. He's lying in the weeds, waiting for the Chase. Last week: 9

10. Kasey Kahne: Class of the field most of the day, until Mr. Gordon stepped up. He's starting to get it together, and could be in the Chase either way. Last week: not ranked.

Dropped out: Carl Edwards, Kyle Larson

Close But No Cigar:

Larson, who finished seventh and led laps in his rooke Indy start; Edwards, who ran 15th despite making it official that he's not going to drive for the Cat in the Hat past November; Harvick, who was wicked fast early but faded late; Hamlin, who was fast, led laps and finished third...before it was found that the rear firewall vent plates were not screwed down tight. That was a costly mistake.
