ONMC POWER 10: JoLo Scores Another Chart-Topper

Seems as if this 2014 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup is a Penske parade, doesn't it? First Brad Keselowski, now Joey Logano...we might just have our first constitutional crisis at the ONMC Power 10.

Who gets No. 1?

Logano trails Keselowski by a single point in the standings, and has one fewer victory (BK has five, JoLo four). Gotta go with the hot hand...well, the most recent hot hand, anyway. JoLo it is!

So let's get about ranking the Chase, Round 2, in terms of Power, shall we?

1. Joey Logano: Can't argue with the New Hampshire triumph. Also can't argue that he and crew chief Todd Gordon are approaching the BK-Paul Wolfe mystique. Last week: 3

2. Brad Keselowski: Mighta taken a stranglehold on the top spot had he not done a hooligan and spun late in the race. Was wicked fast, but ran out of tires. Last week: 1

3. Kevin Harvick: As much as he's been fast this year, it just never seems to be at the right time. Of course, the 2 and 22 are stupid fast everywhere, so I guess it's all relative. Third at NHMS. Last week: 4

4. Jimmie Johnson: Six-Time seems to be creeping up on being a contender, though he's doing it with points instead of victories. Fifth at NHMS, headed to the Track that Jimmie/Jeff Built (and Denis McGlyn). Last week: 8

5. Kyle Busch: How he finished eighth with no front sheet metal in the right place is beyond me. Reminded me of Topper Harley in "Hot Shots!". Last week: 7

6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Chased it all weekend and was running badly, but wound up ninth at the finish. How'd he do that? Last week: 5

7. Jeff Gordon: Had a good shot at giving the Team Penske pair a run, but for a tire issue that led to wall-banging. You'll have that at NHMS. Last week: 2

8. Kyle Larson: Yeah, he's not in the Chase. Should have been. The kid is going to steal a win here soon...of course, I've been saying that for 28 weeks now. Runner-up to JoLo. Last week: Honorable Mention 

9. AJ Allmendinger: This will likely be the last week he's a Chaser, but a 13th-place run on a day when nearly every other Chaser had an issue is worth a No. 9 ranking. Last week: Close But No Cigar

10. Aric Almirola: Ditto here, thanks to a blown engine late at Chicagoland. But the 43 has been Petty-fast all year, and Almirola was up on the wheel Sunday for sixth. He's 10 spots out of a transfer, so it's Dover or bust. Last week: Close But No Cigar

Dropped out: Two-thirds of Joe Gibbs Racing (Hamlin and Kenseth). Kurt Busch.

Close But No Cigar:

Jamie McMurray, who worried the leaders all day and ticked off whoever wasn't leading; Brian Vickers, who tried gallantly to win again at NHMS and came close; Martin Truex Jr., who dodged one of the bullets that seems to be aimed his way every week and finished 12th; and Matt Kenseth, who seemed to have a magnet in his car that everyone in the race just had to hit.
