ONMC POWER 10: Pure Michigan, Pure Gordon Domination

Jeff Gordon has shown that there's plenty of life left in the driver once known as Wonderboy.

By setting a track record at better than 206 miles per hour at MIS, then dominating the late-race restart that decided the race, Gordon climbs back to the top of the ONMC Power 10 rankings for this week. He's also the point leader again, by three points over Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Gordon was simply too much for Joey Logano, who was plenty fast enough to win the race had Gordon not gotten a better restart in the final run.

1. Jeff Gordon: For all the reasons listed above, and the fact that he's on top of the Chase seeding at this point in time. SuperG is on a roll. Last week: 3

2. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Fifth at Michigan, which used to be the only place he could win until this year. Junior is sitting pretty for the Chase. Last week: 1

3. Kevin Harvick: Sneaked past Logano in the late going to earn runner-up honors to Gordon. He's on an upswing lately, and that means trouble for the rest of the field. Last week: 2

4. Brad Keselowski: BK didn't win at his home track, but he finished eighth, and that means he's got a chip on his shoulder heading to Bristol. Last week: not ranked

5. Joey Logano: Finished third and was upset about it. That's a good sign for JoLo. Last week: 6

6. Jimmie Johnson: Finished ninth, but it was his late duel with Ryan Newman--and the post-race conversation--that got him all the press. Last week: 10

7. AJ Allmendinger: OK, he didn't win. He did finish 13th, and that's a lot better two-race score card than he's had in the past. Last week: 4

8. Carl Edwards: Finished 23rd, but has been going great guns of late. HE'll drive for Joe Gibbs Racing next year, so it was his MIS swan song as a member of Roush Fenway Racing. Last week: 8

9. Matt Kenseth: Torn up in the biggest crash of the day, he limped home 38th. But he's still in the Chase as the top non-winner in the points. Last week: 9

10. Clint Bowyer: Finished sixth on a day where no Toyota led a lap, he was the best Toyota finisher. The Camry is down on horsepower to both Chevy and Ford. Last week: not ranked

Dropped out: Kyle Larson, Marcos Ambrose, Ryan Newman

Close But No Cigar:

Newman, who finished 11th but did not make himself look any better by confronting Six-Time on camera when it was over; Greg Biffle, who ran 10th as the best non-Penske Ford; Larson, who was running well when he cut a tire and wound up in flames; and Ambrose, who finished 12th in his chase for the Chase.
