ONMC POWER 10: Quality, Not Quantity This Week

Last week, Jimmie Johnson ruled the day despite not winning at Sonoma. This week, it's somewhat similar in the ONMC Power 10.

Brad Keselowski unloaded fast, won the pole and led 199 of 267 laps on his way to victory. If that's not worthy of the top spot, I don't know what is.

Of course, he spent the night getting killed on pit road by teammate Joey Logano, had to pass Kyle Busch on a late restart and wound up in the care center after doing something silly with a champagne bottle (and believe me, those are pretty hard to break). So there is a little heartache (hand-ache, actually, including stitches) in Keselowski-town this week.

1. Brad Keselowski: Just a complete fanny-waxing of the field by the leader of the Captain's Penske squad. Just crushed everyone. Last week: 8

2. Jeff Gordon: Point leader with a victory finished sixth on Saturday. Had nothing for BK or JoLo, but mixed it up pretty well even so. Last week: 2

3. Jimmie Johnson: Managed a top-10 on a track he's never been particularly good on, and that will do for now. Last week: 1

4. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Just continuing to do what he's always done. Runs near the front, saves the car and manages to earn top-fives. Last week: 3

5. Matt Kenseth: Defending race champ was fourth at the finish, finally showing some good speed. It could be the race it finally switched on for Matty Ice. Last week: 7

6. Carl Edwards: Finished 17th, but wasn't that bad. Can't run with the Penske Fords, but he was good enough to stay in the top 10 here. Last week: 4

7. Kyle Busch: Had a bit of speed for the first time in a while, and that's good. He was way too loose to hold off BK, though. Last week: not ranked

8. Joey Logano: Was equal to BK on track and much better on pit road but dropped a cylinder late. He still finished ninth, so what's that tell you? Last week: 6

9. Kevin Harvick: If there's a guy on his pit crew that hasn't done PT for hours after Kentucky, I'd be very surprised. Pit-road follies continue for the 4 car. Last week: 9

10. Ryan Newman: Senor Top-10 jumped up to a third-place finish on Saturday, the best that team has looked all year. He's gaining steam. Last week: not ranked

Dropped out: Kyle Larson (5th) met Mr. SAFER Barrier for the first time in a stock car with predictably results and finished way back. Paul Menard (10th), who has been wicked fast of late, finished 15th.

Close But No Cigar

Tony Stewart, who was 11th in a car that was off all night; Clint Bowyer, who was decent but not great; Kasey Kahne, who is in the Chase now on points, and has been doing better without having a piano fall on him this week.
