ONMC POWER 10: Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em

After the 10-round championship bout in the garage at Charlotte, we consulted veteran boxing promoter Don King for advice on this week's rankings.

Of course, he was too busy to take our call, so we're doing it the way we always have!

Kevin Harvick has been fast all season, but never seemed to be able to close the deal. On Saturday, he did it in style. That's why he's the champ in this week's edition of the Power 10.

Don't worry...there's a rematch set for Sunday in Alabama!

Speaking of that, Brad Keselowski is $50,000 lighter and in no better title shape. Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are in must-win mode. This is going to be wilder than ever.

1. Kevin Harvick: Duh. Won Charlotte going away, and he's been good on plate tracks. This is the time to move for the title, and so far, he's one of just two to make the Eliminator Round no matter what happens at Talladega. Last week: 7

2. Jeff Gordon: Couldn't quite catch Harvick at the end at Charlotte, but he's right there all the time. Could be one step up at 'Dega. Last week: 8

3. Kyle Busch: For a guy who has never won a Chase race as a Chaser, he's doing pretty well, don't you think? Momentum is with the 18 car. Last week: 3

4. Joey Logano: Sliced Bread was a bit stale at Charlotte, but who cares? He's already in the next round. Last week: 1

5. Ryan Newman: This guy was 7th at Charlotte, and he keeps hanging around like a helium balloon. He could be in the final four. Last week: 5

6. Denny Hamlin: Strong of late, he was quite vocal in his criticism of a certain 2012 series champion. Had the crew not been there, there might have been more penalties. Last week: 6

7. Carl Edwards: Another guy hanging around like spanish moss. Carl has a chance at Talladega, and that's all he needs. Last week: 4

8. Brad Keselowski: Punching bag at Charlotte, verbally and physically. Of course, he has a different take. Has to win at Talladega to advance, unless the Big One happens early. Last week: not ranked

9. Jamie McMurray: If he could ever race like this before the Chase begins, he'd be in it all the time. Was third at Charlotte. Last week: not ranked.

10. Kyle Larson: He races like he's a three-time champ. He might win this one, or the next...or the next. Last week: 2

Dropped out: Matt Kenseth, Martin Truex Jr.

Close But No Cigar: 

Kenseth, who is remarkably consistent on plate tracks; Truex Jr., who finished 14th at CMS; Kurt Busch, who has no fear of pushing the button; Jimmie Johnson, who has to win at Talladega to move on; and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has to win also or at least hope the Big One happens on the pace lap.
