ONMC POWER 10: What a Mess at DIS

The ONMC Power 10 officially hates restrictor-plate racing. Not because it isn't a great show; it is, but it has a tendency to make rating the performance a wee bit frustrating.

But you know us...we just keep ranking and making the best of it!

How it works is simple: we tell you who the 10 best drivers are after each race this season, and you can agree, disagree or improve on them by commenting on the article itself. Remember, this is a family ranking, so keep that in mind.

1. Jeff Gordon: By dint of being the point leader and having a victory. Of course, he triggered the crash that wiped out several favorites. Stuff happens. Last week: 2

2. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Managed to miss the first one, mostly, and wound up seventh with damage. Jumped to second in points, though. Last week: 4

3. Jimmie Johnson: Wound up crashed with the rest of the top dogs 20-something laps in and never made it back out. Third in points with three wins. Last week: 3

4. Brad Keselowski: Also in the first Big One. Fourth in points, fourth here. Last week: 1

5. Matt Kenseth: Got in the big one at first, recovered. Still without a victory, but solidly in the Chase for now. Last week: 5

6. Aric Almirola: First-time winner makes a first appearance in the Power 10. Taking the No. 43 to Victory Lane at Daytona on the 30th anniversary of Richard Petty's 200th victory? Priceless. Last week: not ranked

7. Joey Logano: Heading to New Hampshire, he's sixth in points and has been wicked fast all year. Last week: 8

8. Kyle Busch: Just 'hanging around' after getting dumped on his lid at Daytona, Busch is still a threat about every week. Toyotas have been dog-slow this year, too. Last week: 7

9. Carl Edwards: Could not avoid Tony Stewart in the first Big One and wrinkled the nose of his Ford badly. Might have had something at the end. Last week: 6

10. Kevin Harvick: Two wins, 11th in points, sucky day at Daytona. Last week: 9

Dropped out: Ryan Newman (10th), for the simple reason that Almirola won. Mark him down as 10a.

Newman, who is as consistent as ever; Kasey Kahne, who would have been in the top 10 had he run better; Paul Menard, because he's been really good this year; Clint Bowyer, who likes NHMS a little bit.
