Victory Junction Turns 10!

As Victory Junction celebrates its 10-year anniversary, it also celebrates and honors the dreamer behind its story. A young man with not only a passion for racing, but a passion for helping others.

Adam Petty, great-grandson of the legendary Lee Petty, grandson of Richard “The King” Petty and son of driver Kyle Petty, was a fourth-generation driver making his own name in the world of motorsports. Between races, Adam took the time to visit pediatric hospitals and spent time with children who were battling chronic illnesses. After visiting one of Paul Newman’s camps for children with serious illnesses, he had a vision: a camp in North Carolina for children dealing with serious illnesses where they could reach beyond the limits of their medical conditions and could simply just be kids.

Adam tragically lost his life in a fatal crash at the New Hampshire Speedway. He was only 19 years old.

As part of their healing process, the Petty family gathered their strength and, in honor of Adam’s memory, challenged themselves to build the place that he had envisioned. Adam Petty’s legacy of love was realized when Victory Junction opened its gates to campers for the first time in 2004. Ten years later, his passion for helping others has grown into a place where 20,000 campers and their family members have been able to experience the joys of camp.
